Learning Disorders:

It is possible that a professional has said something to you that sounds like a diagnosis. These diagnoses might refer to general problems in a particular cognitive sphere, such as Nonverbal Learning Disorder and Language Learning Disorder. The labels might involve educational diagnosis, and include such things as Reading Disorder (dyslexia), Mathematics Disorder (dyscalcula), or Disorder of Written Expression (dysgraphia). The first two disorders are descriptive and do not correspond to more formal diagnoses. The series of three subject designations are formal DSM-IV psychiatric diagnoses. It should be noted that the Disorder of Written Expression involves everything from handwriting to spelling, grammar, and composition.

Labels such as these are attempts to pinpoint areas of difficulty and weakness, in contrast to areas of success and strength
