This course features a premier teaching faculty of clinician-researchers who present a comprehensive curriculum on best practices for treating an array of psychiatric disorders. Emphasis is placed on the practical translation of advances in psychopharmacology to the everyday care of patients. Participants will learn about diagnosing difficult disorders, and new medications and alternative treatments used to help care for patients.

Dr. Michael Gitlin will chair the acclaimed intensive psychopharmacology course that places an emphasis on the latest news in drug selection and medication management. Participants will receive an extensive syllabus including detailed lecture outlines and reference materials.

Learning Objectives

1. To update practitioners in psychiatry, neurology, and primary care on the state-of-the-art in understanding and treating ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, chronic pain, and anxiety and mood disorders.
2. To understand the latest developments in psychopharmacology that can benefit patients suffering from depression and psychotic disorders.
3. To provide practitioners with cutting edge information on the treatment and diagnosis of mental illness.
4. To educate physicians, psychologists, and other medical professionals on the integration of medical and psychosocial approaches to treating psychiatric disorders.
5. To be aware of the effects of culture and ethnicity on diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.

Statement of Need

We have surveyed our conference participants and professionals in the community through an annual needs assessment and on-site evaluations at our conferences, and have found an increase in educational need for cutting edge information on topics including insomnia and sleep disorders, ADHD in children and adults, Bipolar Disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. There is an evident need for information on selection of treatments for depression and psychotic disorders. This yearˇ¦s conference will specifically address all of these unmet educational needs and provide practitioners with state-of-the-art tools to better treat their patients.
